No Coup Against Akufo-Addo; Let Him Suffer 4 Years of Embarrassment

John Mahama says the National Democratic Congress, a party he led into opposition, does not have any intention whatsoever to remove the “super incompetent” Akufo-Addo administration through coup.

Indirectly defending the alleged treasonable comments made by Koku Anyidoho, Mr. Mahama said if anyone might have talked about a possible coup in the country, then the person might have said it in context.

“…We don’t support any truncation of our current democracy in anyway. If someone said something, he might have said in some context, not that he had any intention or we (NDC) had any intention to truncate the mandate that was given to the NPP,” he told party supporters Saturday in Wa.

The current democratic dispensation in the country, the former president argued, was the creation of the NDC, and assured that the party is committed to protecting the fourth republic than any other political party in this country.

Consequently, he said, the party will not destabilise the Ghana’s democracy by staging a coup against the Akufo-Addo/ New Patriotic Party-led government, but will give it the full four-year mandate to embarrass itself.

“Indeed we must not help the NPP out by truncating their mandate, let them go through the full embarrassment of their four years,” Mr. Mahama told a large crowd of NDC supporters after the seventh Unity Walk in Wa in the Upper West Region.

The NPP, he assured despite the civil coup threat, will continue to be in power until January 7, 2021.

He continued: “if you push them out, they will say oh we were just on the verge of delivering our promise and we were taken out”.

Former President Mahama expressed optimism about the victory of the NDC in the 2010 election but cautioned the members of the party not to bag their hopes on what he termed the super incompetent Akufo-Addo administration.

Rather, he wants the members of the NDC to work hard to secure a genuine electoral victory come 2020.

“…Though the NPP has proven super incompetent, we cannot sit and relax and say because of their super incompetence we are going to win the election. We must work hard to convince the electorate that we deserve to be voted back into power,” he told the crowd.

In 2020, he said the people Ghana will make a decision, which he said, “will be to tell NDC we know you’re the most capable managers of this country; it is you who bring development, it is you who does infrastructure, it is you who make this country move forward”.
