The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says it has developed a dedicated NHIS [Unstructured Supplementary Service Data] USSD-based service for its members.
The service can be accessed by dialing short code, *842*10#, from MTN or Vodafone number, the Authority said in a statement, promising the services would be available on all networks in due course.
The code, *842*10#, can be used by NHIS members to check the status of their NHIS membership eligibility, NHIS benefit package and NHIS medicines list.
“NHIA is also testing the option to allow members to complete their annual membership renewals comfortably and safely from their mobile phones by using this code,” the statement said.
It said the NHIS mobile membership renewal service will be launched soon and rolled out in phases.
The NHIS has however warned its members to be vigilant against fraudulent attempts by scammers to capture their mobile money PIN code.
“Please do not share your mobile money PIN code with anyone purporting to be a representative of N H IS. (We will never ask for it),” it stressed.
