NDC Has Grown Beyond Values of June 4 Revolution

Central Regional Chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has slammed founder of his party, former President Jerry John Rawlings that the current NDC has outgrown the probity and accountability values of June 4.

According to him, it is undeniable fact that probity and accountability is the basis for the formation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but added that the party has grown bigger than it was.

The former president noted that greed and corruption of today is nothing compared to what existed before he toppled the military regime on June 4, 1979.

“Generals were executed . . . because of corruption, the greed, corruption and injustice of today, believe it or not is a thousand times more than what these Generals were executed for,” the former military ruler said Sunday during the 38th anniversary of June 4 uprising in the Upper West region.

He said the previous administration “squandered many opportunities to clean up and to restore the June 4 principles in the party.”

“Ladies and Gentlemen, nobody is saying don’t make money but make it good and clean but not some of the ones that I know, sickening, the kind of greed, selfishness, look at where it landed us,” Jerry Rawlings added.

But Allotey Jacobs on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show insisted that many that joined the NDC in 1996 was due to its virtue of social democracy and not the June 4 revolution.

“I am an Nkrumahist; I am not a June 4 Revolutionist and so by the virtue that NDC is a Social Democratic party and CPP could not unite, most of us in 1996 had to join the NDC. I am not a Revolutionist, but I believe in the ideology of the NDC which is Social Democracy fully adopted in 2002, and has grown up to now and so I am Nkrumahist and a social democrat,” he stated.
