Nana Addo Not In Charge, Some Individuals Are Running the Country – Former NDC MP

“…there is no doubt in my mind that you have a President who is not in charge and it is very clear. The President is not in charge. You have individuals who run this country…” says Murtala Mohammed.

Ghana’s Parliament Erupts into Chaos as NDC MP whisks away Speaker’s seat

The former Member of Parliament for Nantong Constituency and former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry was speaking to the release of eight members of New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, Delta Force.

Condemning their release, Murtala Mohammed wondered during a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji why President Akufo Addo who promised to adhere to the rule of law is allowing the judiciary to be ridiculed.

According to him, the activities of the vigilante group undermine democracy and the judiciary; hence Nana Addo must prove to be ‘in-charge’ by showing that he is committed to protecting the rule of law; not only in his speeches but also in action.

“We are no longer living under a military dictatorship; We are living in a rule of law and Nana Addo promised that indeed transparency and adherence to rule of law was going to be the cradle of this governance and he has demonstrated that in speeches. I tell him that it is not speeches that we eat. We want to see action…

…it seems to me that the issue of protecting the judiciary and protecting the rule of law is an NDC property and therefore when you want to speak in favour of the need for us to protect our democracy, you are speaking in favour of the NDC and therefore you must not speak out because the moment you point out they will go at you and that for me is extremely worrying.

It is more worrying because there is no doubt in my mind that you have a President who is not in charge and it is very clear. The President is not in charge. You have individuals who run this country. How can someone who is not even an appointee walk to the Flagstaff House and ministers will all rise up because he has the listening ear of the President?”
