President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Christian Addai-Poku says there was no communication about the deadline for the biometric registration.

Thousands of graduate teachers across the country will lose their salaries this month as government has refused to reinstate defaulters of biometric registration on the payroll.

The Controller and Account General removed the names of over 26,000 people from its records for failing to register. It says it will not reverse its decision to stop the salary of teachers who have so far failed to register on the biometric platform.

This is despite the warning of massive labour unrest by NAGRAT if government goes ahead to remove names.

“It is really wrong because the worker has worked over the period and the fact that somebody might illegally be on the payroll doesn’t mean somebody else must be denied their salary. That is going to create whole lots of problems.

He told Joy News’ Beatrice Adu they were not notified that when the authorities finish registering members those who fail to submit their biometric details will have their names deleted from the payroll.

Mr Addai-Poku said if NAGRAT had been informed about the deadline, it would have gone all out to get its members to submit their details.

According to him, members thought it was an ongoing process and they least expected it to lead to them being denied a month’s salary.

NAGRAT is, therefore, asking for a month to go through with the registration process of its members which Mr Adai-Poku promised they will Marshall Forces to get done.

But Speaking to Joy News, Head of Payroll at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, George Baah insisted the affected workers will not be paid for April unless the Ministry of Finance reverses its decision.

He said they are yet to receive information reversing the decision.
