This laudable initiative forms part of MTN Ghana’s 21 Days of Y’ello care Employees Volunteer challenge.

The annual event in its tenth year is always held in the month of June as one of the interventions through which the company gives back to the society.

In an interview with the Senior Manager In Charge of Business Risk Management at MTN, Mr. Joseph Dogbe , he hinted that this year the company has schemed to enhance teaching and learning in schools.

“ The theme for this year’s event, “Investing in Education for All”, had informed their decision to scout for schools that had inadequate reading materials and to establish reading clubs as well as donate reading materials to the selected schools”, he stated

It is this regard, MTN is presenting over 2000 Textbooks and Novels to some selected schools. The initiative was basically designed to rekindle interest in reading amongst basic school children.

According to him, currently Six schools including the Kwashiman Basic 1 and 2 Primary, Anglican A and B Primary, St Luke KG and Primary, Prince of Peace Primary and the MarCathy Primary schools are currently benefiting from the initiative.

Adding that, the company is undertaking several projects as part of its 21 Days of Y’ello Care, especially in the area of education since the company has placed much importance on the intellectual growth of children.

This he said, MTN is always committed to ensuring that its projects especially Community and Social Responsibility Initiatives are sustained into the future and that all efforts are made to ensure that the initiative is sustained to the benefit of school children.

According to him, MTN volunteers will undertake various activities so as to promote education and encourage the use of technology during the 21days of Y’ello Care.

“Aside the Reading Clinics in selected schools across the three business districts, and we will hold capacity training sessions for teachers in selected special schools.”

The Head Teacher of Kwashiman 1 Primary School, Michael Korletey, commended MTN Ghana for embarking on such laudable initiative.
