A group calling itself Ghana First Patriotic Front had claimed Monday March 26 that  it got the support of  minority Members of Parliament, senior citizens, leaders of various political parties, the clergy, the National Union of Ghana Students, Market Women, various youth groups, civil society organizations and others to embark on a demonstration scheduled for Wednesday March 28.

According to them, “the defiance and betrayal of the Akufo-Addo-led government in allowing the establishment of a Military Base for the United States Armed Forces in Ghana” necessitated the demonstration and they claim it is aimed at reversing the ratification of the Ghana-US military defense agreement.

A statement from the minority caucus in parliament under the signature of Alhaji A. B.A. Fuseini, Ranking Member of the Communications Committee of Parliament stated their readiness to join the demonstration.

“Minority Members of Parliament will join forces with the Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) and all other groups who have so far registered their displeasure by expressing their unflinching support and participation in tomorrow’s march of destiny” the statement said.

According to the statement, the minority will “continue to explore many democratic options not limited to demonstrations, public fora, picketing, court actions and the notice we have served that a future NDC Government will urgently review this obnoxious agreement”.

“It must be stressed that this is a principled position and that any other country which brings a similar agreement for Ghana’s ratification will attract and face the same level of resistance”, it emphasized.

The demonstration is expected to commence at 6am at the Obra Spot – Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and end at Hearts Park.
