On the 24th of July, 2012, the country lost a great soul in the person of his Excellency John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills. ‘Asomdwee Hene’ as he was fondly called placed the whole country in great shock with his sudden death.

Five years down the lane, this man is been remembered by the people of Ghana as a wreath laying ceremony was organized in his memory with people adorned in white and lack cloths as well as cloths with his image embossed in them.

The ceremony brought together the former President John Dramani Mahama, as well as former Vice President and his wife, family members and loved ones who all thronged to the Asomdwee park to witness the rather simple but solemn wreath laying and memorial service held in honour of the late President

In delivering the sermon, Rev. S. Y Kwami of the Global Evangelical Church called on all Ghanaians to emulate the peaceful nature of our late President and always seek God first.

According to “it was a full gospel men fellowship business meeting that the President gave his all and accepted Jesus Christ in his life. Ever since, he has committed the country into God’s hands and turned every ground into a prayer field.”

The ceremony saw Fmr President John Dramani Mahama who was clad in a black lay a wreath. Old students and mates of Prof John Evans Atta Mills of Achimota School came to perform their usual ritual routine as they laid the school cloth on his tomb. It continued with his son, Kofi Atta Mills who laid the wreath on behalf of the family. Atta Mills Institute also laid a wreath. His campaign team members present laid a wreath in his honour.  Party Chairman, Mr Kofi Purtophy also laid a wreath on behalf of the whole NDC team.

The event which was held in memory of the late President had all well-wishers as well as sympathizers all coming to the famous Asomdwee Park to witness the ceremony.
