The Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South in the Volta Region, Elliot Edem Agbenorwo has cautioned Ghanaians travelling to neigbouring Togo to transact business to be ‘cautious’ because their safety cannot be guaranteed.
Confirming the presence of heavy police deployment at the Aflao border following a yet-to-be staged protest by Togolese in Ghana, the MCE explained that “We have received notice from the Togo citizens in Ghana to demonstrate at the Ghana–Togo border.”
“Although the letter said only 100 people will be partaking in the protest, our information has it that the number may be more than that so I have to request personnel from Ho and Keta to beef up security here” he told Bright Kwesi Asempa, host of Onua FM morning show on Wednesday.
He reiterated that as the head of security in the Municipal, he will not leave anything to chance hence the decision to beef up security in his area to protect lives and properties.
“We are only praying that they adhere to the public order Act,” he hoped.
Elliot Edem Agbenorwo also noted that the situation at the Aflao border coupled with what is happening in Togo, is having toll on trading across the border.
“As we speak, there is nothing going on but we are here, as well as the protestors. They are trooping in but nothing yet, everything is calm here at the moment. But our people should tread cautiously” he maintained.
