Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Shama District of the western region have vowed to vote out the NPP come 2020 should the president retain the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for Shama, Joseph Amoah.
The aggrieved members who embarked on a demonstration against the nominee claimed they have lost confidence and trust in the leadership of the party, believing that they misled the president to choose the nominee knowing very well the fortunes and destiny of the party cannot be trusted into the care of the nominee.
The demonstrators clad in red bands amidst chanting of war songs also carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘we don’t trust our leaders in NPP’, and ‘Amoah you can’t be our leader, Nana Addo has disappointed’ us among others.
Some of the concerns raised by the demonstrators were that there was a mutual agreement that there should be a community balance in the selection of a DCE and an MP, but unfortunately the MP and DCE nominee are from Inchaban instead of selecting one from Shama and Inchaban respectively.
They again stated that the DCE nominee was a chairman for the party in the constituency and became a DCE in the constituency during the Kufuor administration. They are therefore surprised that he has been nominated again as DCE when there are other competent people from especially Shama who can occupy similar position.
The Aboadze Constituency chairman of the NPP, Phillip Kwame Addo in an interview expressed disappointment in the party hierarchy including Peter Mac Manu and the western regional chairman of the NPP for misleading the president to nominate the candidate and threatened to either curse whoever is behind this or vote against the NPP in the next general elections if the nominee is maintained.
Addressing the media after the demonstration, a polling station executive of the party Francis Bassaw Brandful stated they will reject the nominee adding they fought with their sweat, blood and resources for the party in 2016 general elections and they will therefore use same means to vote out the party should the president fail to adhere to their calls to change the DCE nominee Joseph Amoah for their preferred candidate, Ebenezer Dadzie.
Meanwhile one of the demonstrators had to be whisked away by the police after they spotted a machete on him.
