Afia Akoto, who is the 3rd defendant in an 8 million suit, had accused the CEO of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors of offering a 1 million bribe to the CEO of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company, Alfred Obeng.

But the MASLOC Deputy Executive Secretary has since written a signed letter, in which she apologized and retracted the comments made against Senyo Hosi. This is part of terms of settlement signed to get her removed as the 3rd defendant.

“I write to sincerely and unreservedly retract wholly my comments about your client which led to my being made 3rd Defendant in the above mentioned defamatory case,” the letter to counsel for Senyo Hosi Samson Lardy Anyenini read in part.

According to Afia Akoto, although she did not originate the allegations of wrongdoing, she admitted her actions by sharing via her social media platform without verification was wrong on her part.

She has subsequently been removed from the case as 3rd defendant after the plaintiff prayed for default judgment because the two other defendants in the case – MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong and Kencity Media – had not filed their defense.

The 1st and 2nd defendants however brought a late defense before the court, anda cost of 1,000 Ghana cedis was awarded against them.

The MP had alleged that Mr. Hosi paid a 1 million cedis bribe to the head of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Company to influence him to reverse a contaminated fuel sale made to two companies.

Mr. Hosi vehemently denied paying any such money and cautioned Mr. Agyepong and Madam Akoto who published the same allegation on Facebook, to retract and apologize.

He consequently filed a defamation case against the MP, his company Kencity Media, and Afia Akoto.

In his suit, Senyo Hosi asked the court to award 5 million Ghana Cedis compensation against the MP, Kennedy Agyapong, 3 million against Kencity Media which is owned by the MP, and 1 million against Afia Akoto.
