The District Chief Executive for Kwabre East in the Ashanti Region has promised to increase the patronage of the popular traditional kente cloth under his leadership.
Kente is a colourful type of silk and cotton fabric made of interwoven cloth strips and is native to the Akan ethnic group.
Nana Osei Asibey said the assembly will establish a “Kente Adinkra Festival” in the area to promote the sale and use of the kente cloth which is one of the main occupations of the indigenes in the area.
The DCE gave the promise in an interview with Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene after his nomination was confirmed by the assembly members on Friday.
“If you dress in the area, there must be kente cloth in it,” he said, adding “e shall unite to do that, which will attract people to come and buy”.
Commenting on the President’s initiative of the 1-district, 1-factory, Nana Osei Asibey said already, he has asked the assembly to conduct a feasibility studies on the land in the area to identify which crop can grow better in the area.
“We grow pineapples here and that is not enough so I have asked them to do that research and let me know what crop can grow better here and we shall establish a factory”.
The DCE admitted that several roads in the district are in deplorable state but assured the people that the assembly will take a stock of them to either “grade them or make sure they are constructed”.
