Residents of Kwabenya and Kitase in the Dome-Kwabenya and the Akuapem North constituencies in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions respectively are up in arms with authorities in the area over the deplorable nature of their roads.

The Kwabenya road serves as a bypass route through Comet, Berekuso, Kitase and other surrounding towns towards Peduase Lodge and Aburi, but such a busy road has been left in tatters.

It has left the drivers frustrated and has, however, threatened to block the roads that connect Greater Accra to the Eastern regions. However, the road has been in a very deplorable state for the past decade and nothing has been done to fix it.

As part of calls for a better road network, residents and drivers that ply that road have threatened to embark on a demonstration and block the road as well.

Some angry drivers and residents who spoke to the DAILY HERITAGE Newspaper called on government to investigate the contractor working on the roads. “You can’t live around this place and wear white dress, because dust will paint it brown. I witnessed a pregnant woman miscarry on the bumpy road,” one of the drivers said.

Some drivers also called on the government to fix the road for them else they would block it, saying, “We use all our profits for maintenance of our vehicles, and therefore we are forced to charge extra fares over the normal. I park my car anytime it rains, because it is better to park your vehicle if it rains than to get stuck on the way.”

The Chief of Berekuso, Odeefo Oteng Korankye II, however called on the residents and drivers to stay calm and pleaded with the angry residents not block the roads. He therefore called on the two Members of Parliament for the two constituencies, Lawyer Adwoa Safo and O B Amoah of Dome Kwabenya and Akuapem North constituencies respectively to listen to the cry of the people.

One monumental thing along this deplorable road is the well acclaimed Ashesi University situated at Berekuso. Some of its students also called on the government to try and tar the road since some visitors find it difficult to use it.
