Mr Solomon Tettey Appiah, Kpone-Katamanso District Chief Executive, disclosing this said “we have observed that the fuel consumption rate of the Assembly is very high”.

Mr Appiah, disclosing this at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the second Assembly added that he was in discussion with management to put in place mechanisms to reduce the pattern and sanitize the system to achieve optimum benefits.

“We want to abolish the coupon system and partner with a reliable oil company to provide the Assembly with the requisite fuel at wholesale prices”, he noted.

He indicated that this would enable KKDA to reduce the amount utilized on fuel and streamline performance to ensure the attainment of set targets.

According to him, his administration would also introduce a staff bus system which would allow for collective movement of staff with the aim of curtailing unnecessary movement of official vehicles which would subsequently result in reduction in fuel consumption.

Mr Appiah added that other measures would be initiated to achieve the government’s agenda of protecting the public purse which could only be achieved through the reduction of corruption and elimination of waste and duplication of most of the Assembly’s undertakings.

He stated that the use of intensive labour from the area would be used to execute the Assembly’s projects adding that this would reduce the over dependence on contractors in providing socio-amenities for the communities.

He noted that his administration intended to test the efficacy of the labour intensive works approach with the construction of a major bridge on the storm-drain in front of the Top Oil filling station at Kpone.

The DCE said to create jobs for the unemployed youth in the area, KKDA was seeking to partner Zoom Lion Ghana Limited to create avenues for interested youth to distribute waste bins to households in the District and collect the user-fees on commission basis.

The Assembly was also considering the digitization of its revenue database to offer realistic rates and fees for tax payers.

Mr Appiah observed that exportation taxes were not being tapped in the District depriving the Assembly of substantial revenue stressing that the numerous production units operating in the area exported their products to other parts of the country without paying export fees to KKDA.

“The annual business operation permits they pay are woefully inadequate to meet the numerous commitments of the Assembly”, he added.
