Mr Kwabena Asante-Asare, the Founder of ACDT, said the College would be a hub of job creation through training and skilling of the youth thus providing an avenue to add value to the raw gold produced in and exported from Ghana.

He said: “We would have Ghanaian design products with the same quality that can compete with products from anywhere in the world. This will help create young self-employed entrepreneurs to reduce the unemployment situation in Ghana.

He said the College was accredited by the National Accreditation Board on December 1, 2016, and was valid until November 30, 2019 and in addition, accreditation was granted for ACDT to offer Bachelor of Arts in Jewellery Design Technology.

He said the requisite affiliation with University of Education, Winneba (UEW) was also approved on August 23, 2016 and a memorandum of understating (MOU) with UEW was signed on November 1, 2016.

Mr Asante-Asare said a state of the art workshop at the College, would support the practical aspect of the courses.

Mr Kwabena Amankwah Asiamah, the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North who was the guest of honour observed that unemployment was currently one of the critical problems plaguing the Ghanaian economy.

“According to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) in its 2010 population census and the World Bank latest report dubbed: “Landscape of Jobs in Ghana (2016),” on jobs in Ghana, revealed that about 48 per cent of the youth in the country, who are between 15-24 years do not have jobs.

He said the College would provide support to Government to revamp the industries and contribute to the total development of Ghana.

He reiterated the fact that the college would train person to have the confidence to create jobs by themselves.

Dr Emmanuel Amankwah Asante, the President of ACDT, said Goldsmith in Ghana deserved to be graduates who employ high technology in plying their trade and making trinkets that would appeal to the international market.
