The atmosphere was super charged when the champion touched down at the Kotoka International Airport and made his way through the crowd.
Dogboe floored Jessie Magdaleno in the 11th round of the WBO Super Bantamweight title challenge to win the title for the very time at a young age of 23.
On his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport Tuesday night, the champion was proud to have won it for his country and highlighted his father as his backbone.
“The nation wanted a world champion so badly and God has heard their prayers. It wasn’t a difficult fight for me. I have to say a big thank you my father and the team around me for keeping me motivated through it all. Jessie Magdaleno has lost the title and this is a moment for the whole nation to celebrate,” the freshly minted world champion said.
The story of Isaac Dogboe and his father is an incredible one: Isaac’s father, Paul, quit his day job in the military to help his son attain boxing pre-eminence – a journey that started in 2011.
Seven years on, he is a world champion and the man who has always backed his boy says he has never doubted his son’s prowess in the ring.
“It has not been easy. It is a long road and for some reason I knew that he will make it. As you know he went to the Olympics at the age of 17 and now he is the World Champion at 23 years old”.
The champion has arrived in the country and will reign for sometime until his next bout.
