About 10,000 mounds of yam have also been washed away in what many have described as the worst flood disaster ever recorded in the District.

The East Gonja District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Alhaji Imoro Alhassan, disclosed this after a 48-hour data collection exercise.

Ahead of market day in Salaga on Tuesday, Member of Parliament (MP) Salifu Adam Braimah has visited the Kpembe bridge to assess the situation.

The bridge was washed away by the floods.

The MP together with representatives from the Ghana Highway Authority are considering an immediate solution to enable a smooth market day on Tuesday.

Some traders were seen Monday crossing the water amidst the pressure and the possibility of casualties.

“Majority of the affected persons from 512 homes have taken refuge in some mosques in the District while others have moved in with friends,” revealed Alhaji Alhassan.

“We are pulling the strings to see what we can do to help as the regional boss has been on this since Saturday.”

Salaga South MP Salifu Adam Braimah has called for external assistance to repair the washed away Kpembe bridge.

“This bridge is beyond the strength of the district assembly, so we need the nation to come as soon as possible,” he said.

“Now market women have to cart their goods by carrying them one after the other before they can cross with them.”

A visit to some farms also revealed a devastated scene. Yam mounds have been washed away.

Meanwhile, the bridge that connects Wulensi District to the Kpandai District on the Eastern Corridor has also been washed away.

3news.com gathers no movement whatsoever – by motorcycle, vehicle or cycle – has gone on among the three major districts – Wulensi, Kpandai and East Gonja – since they have been cut off from each other.

One out of the four persons that were on admission at the Salaga Government Hospital and the Precious Life Clinic has been discharged with her bills serviced by the district assembly.

3news.com’s checks at both health facilities revealed the three others are responding to treatment and will soon be discharge.
