Sector minister Isaac Asiamah told the press after a meeting with Appiah and GFA executives on Monday, April 24 that Appiah will get the necessary backing to thrive and work to achieve the laid-out expectations of him.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Appiah paid a courtesy call on the minister to introduce the latter to him as new Stars coach and also discuss plans to make his tenure a success.

“You can be assured the fullest support from the Akufo-Addo-led government. We will give you the support that you need to succeed,” the Minister said.

The support from the high office – which has not always been the case – will be enough to see Appiah through on the job but he cannot do that entirely well without the support from fans.

In recent times, the Black Stars have become very unpopular amongst the Ghanaian populace and it is one thing the minister thinks Kwesi Appiah needs to change.

Mr Asiamah said: “Bring back the support of Ghanaians. Ghanaians are not so much enthused when they hear of the Black Stars and you are to ensure that our supporters are happy once again”.

To lift the spirit of the fans, the Black Stars need to start churning out results as soon as possible.

There are several issues Kwesi Appiah needs to solve in the team in order to get them back together as a winning machine.

He has been tasked to build a formidable team for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and one that can win AFCON in 2019.

The MP thinks he has to be firm in his dealings as coach of the Stars and select the cream of the crop.

“I implore you to be very assertive, be fair and firm in your selection of players, help to improve our local league. Your vision should be clear to make the Black Stars greater than you have come to meet it.”

Appiah will play his first four games against Ethiopia, Mexico, USA and a local Black Stars game against Burkina Faso.
