Government has taken a decision on what it plans doing for the family of the late army captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama, 3news.com has gathered.
Captain Mahama was lynched on Monday, May 29 at Dekyira-Obuasi in the Central Region under bizarre circumstances.
Preparations are underway for a state burial for the Commander of the Military Detachment based at Diaso, the capital of the Upper Denkyira West District.
Addressing journalists on Monday, June 5, Acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu said government plans to announce a package for the family later in the day, exactly a week after the incident.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that, government will [Monday] take a decision and announce the plans that the State has for the late Captain and his family, having taken a serious view of all that has happened regarding this unfortunate incident,” he said.
Mr Boadu, who is the National Organiser of the ruling party, revealed how they have resolved not to play politics with the issue and advising other parties to do same.
“We mourn with the family and we will never play politics with the death of such an innocent soul.
“We hope that the other political parties also refrain from playing politics with the painful death of a fellow citizen.”
At least 30 persons have been arrested in connection with the death.
The family has requested a monument to be erected in honour of the fallen soldier, aged 32.
His burial has been tentatively slated for Friday, June 9.
