Government Taking ‘gullible’ Ghanaians For Granted – Inusah

A Ranking Member of the Constitution, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has described Ghanaians as “gullible”, insisting that the case involving some eight members of the Delta Force being pursued by the Attorney General (AG) will not yield any positive results.

Alhaji Inusah argued that the purported investigations by the Attorney General (AG) to determine how an advice was issued for the release of the eight members of the Delta Force accused of aiding some 13 colleagues standing trial to escape from lawful custody will be fruitless.

He told Emefa Apawu on Class FM’s 505 news programme on Thursday, May 18: “They are taking us for granted because Ghanaians are gullible…the investigations will come to nothing”.

A Kumasi Circuit Court struck out the case against the eight persons who aided the escape of the 13 Delta Force members arrested for assaulting the security coordinator of the Ashanti Region.

The court presided over by Her Honour Patricia Amponsah, discontinued the case on Wednesday, May 17 because the prosecution lacked evidence against the accused.

The eight were charged with causing disturbances in court, resisting arrest, and rescuing persons in lawful custody.

According to the prosecutor, ACP Okyere Darko, the police did not have enough evidence to support the charges leveled against the accused persons.

Few hours after the discharge of the case, the ministry, in a release, stated: “Preliminary investigations suggest that the decision was taken without recourse even to the Director of Public Prosecutions and may amount to a breach of internal procedures on matters of this nature.

“While the department awaits the full results of this investigation, we would like to reiterate our commitment to ensuring that the rule of law is applied at all times and persons found culpable of any breaches that bring the work and commitment of the department into disrepute will be sanctioned and the appropriate remedies adopted in the interest of the republic.”

However, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central pointed out that the development is “an assault on the consciousness of Ghanaians” adding that it is an “abuse on the sensibilities of Ghanaians which has made Ghanaians a laughing stock”

He held the position that government is “throwing gargantuan dust in the eyes of Ghanaians” insisting that the discharge of the accused persons was a “shame”.

For him, the development makes him believe that “either government is using lies and propaganda to cover an otherwise shameful act or not in control of issues”.

He explained that the AG is supposed to know any criminal case especially those of national interests and “if she is not on top of issues she must resign”.
