The bank was also named the second runner-up for Trade Finance at the annual awards organised by Corporate Initiative Ghana (CIG).

This year’s event was on the theme: “Redefining a Sustainable Customer Experience In Banking: 60 years After Independence.”

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Today Business on the award, Managing Director of GN Bank, Mr. Issah Adam, said: “success comes with hard work.”

According to him, it was a great honour for GN Bank to receive such prestigious award in line with recognition of its hard work.

“I am excited about the award for the Best Growing Bank because it affirms our position of promoting financial inclusion in this country,” he said.

He underscored the importance of financial inclusion by GN Bank as a source of commitment in executing its agenda and vision.

“We are promoting financial inclusion and by so doing, we are taking banking to the doorstep of every Ghanaian, especially in the rural areas, that is why we currently have 295 locations in this country,” he disclosed.

“I am glad that Corporate Initiative Ghana has recognised our effort in taking banking to the doorsteps of Ghanaians, and promoting financial inclusion in this country. The award is dear to us because it recognises our contribution in the financial sector,” he added.

He stressed that the desire to promote financial inclusion is what has propelled the bank to dominate in the country in terms of visibility.

Mr. Adam further said that the award was just the beginning of greater things for GN Bank.

He explained that works had already begun in order to put in place an effective and efficient structure to ensure a big win in next year’s Ghana Banking Awards.

“…we have what it takes to be the best bank in the country; we are living the dreams of our forefather who saw the need to set up this bank and to do something different from what others are doing.

“We don’t pride ourselves as high street bank and that is why we are the People’s Bank, we believe in providing services for the ordinary Ghanaian in this country and that is why we have our footprints everywhere in Ghana,” he said.

Mr. Adam used the opportunity to urge customers of GN Bank to keep patronising products of the bank, adding that “we are making banking easy for them.”

Mr. Adam said prior to the banking awards, GN Bank also won two trophies at an Inter-Banks sporting event.

The two trophies won by GN Bank were in the sporting disciplines of table tennis (ping pong) and volleyball.

In all, 33 banks competed for 17 award categories including the coveted Bank of the Year Award.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, has asked for the full support of the banking sector towards the implementation of the Basel II and III, two sets of regulations that seek to improve the banking sector’s ability to deal with financial stress, improve risk management and strengthen banks’ transparency.

He said the support was needed to ensure that the implementation of regulations, scheduled to take off next year, “is smooth.”

Dr. Addison explained that the central bank requires their support to ensure a safe, sound and resilient banking sector.

Touching on the theme, the governor urged banks and financial institutions to take a customer-related approach by putting customers at the centre of their businesses.

That, he said, was key to the success of the financial services industry.
