Prior to entering parliament, Miss Francisca Oteng was still a final year student at the University pursuing LLB at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. When questions were raised about how she would combine academic work with politics, she promised to give off her best and subsequently graduated last Saturday among, 48 percent of females who graduated out of 2,200 students from the college.

It was tough for her to combine parliamentary work and schooling, but she was motivated by her desire to liberate the poor. Ms. Mensah said she was eager to write the professional examination almost immediately to enroll at the Ghana School of Law so as to receive the best tutelage in order to start practice.

At 24, Ms Mensah made history when she outwitted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) bigwigs at the primary and rose to clinch the highest number of votes during the 2016 parliamentary election.

She won the constituency primary in 2015 after beating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Kofi Frimpong with 321 votes in an area known to be the ‘world bank’ of the then opposition party.

Ms Mensah donated her first three months salary together with taxi cabs to her constituents in fulfillment of a campaign pledge she made prior to her election as the parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This was indeed a rare act of benevolence, considering the fact that the MP complained bitterly about financial pressure mounted on her by her constituents.

The young MP had revealed few months into her tenure, that despite her young age, her constituents make excessive demands ranging from school fees, jobs, and food. But she still deemed it thoughtful to sacrifice her earnings for her constituents.

The MP was born at Aboaso Hospital on February 14, 1993, in Mampoten in the Ashanti Region to Dr. Kwaku Oteng, Managing Director (MD) of Angel Group of Companies, and Mrs. Joyce Oteng, a businesswoman.
