President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says his aim is to make the Ghanaian economy the most business-friendly in the world.
He says barely five months after taking office, the economy is already taking shape as the cost of doing business has been lowered.
Addressing a luncheon for delegates of the 2017 Executive Meeting of the International Democratic Union, a group of center-right political parties, on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo said his programme of social and economic transformation is “the most ambitious” in the history of the Fourth Republic “if not the entire history of Ghana”.
“This programme is hinged on restructuring the institutions of our governance, modernising our agriculture to enhance its productivity, a clear industrial policy, and rationalising the financial sector so that it supports growth in agriculture, and growth in manufacturing and industry,” he said.
“To this end, my government has, in our first budget in March, introduced measures to stimulate the private sector.”
He reiterated his government’s target to further boost the business atmosphere “and make Ghana an easier place to conduct business through paperless transactions at our ports, and the removal of all internal customs barriers by the beginning of September”.
He said the economic transformation is in tandem with a focus on the most basic elements of social justice of quality basic education and accessible healthcare.
“We have been in office barely five months, but we are taking concrete action to fulfil our manifesto pledges and commitments,” he insisted.
Not only is the IDU Executive Meeting to be held in Accra but also the Union’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs will also meet.
