The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) has been cited for bad record keeping by the 2015 Auditor-General’s report.
The school on several occasions failed to keep detailed records on contracts and other projects in the school, demonstrating a lack of transparency in the processes.
The report said “Management failed to maintain proper records on the Institute’s contracts, hence contract agreements for three projects and the engagement of two consultants could not be provided for our scrutiny.
Additionally, the Institute did not maintain a contract register to monitor payments made to contractors”.
The Auditor-General directed GIJ to make available the contract agreements and the contract register for their inspection and recommended proper record keeping henceforth to enhance transparency.
The report also revealed that Ghana Institute of Journalism refused to make known how donations received from corporate institutions for the construction of a lecture theatre was used.
“We noted that the Institute failed to keep records of donations received for the building of an emergency Lecture Hall”.
The report recommended that “management provide records on donations received and how they were utilized for our examination.
Additionally, management should ensure that all donations received by the Institute are recorded in the appropriate records to enhance proper accountability”.
