The Okertchiri family was greeted with shock when they went to the hospital to collect the body for burial last Friday.

After enquiries at the mortuary, they were told another family had mistakenly buried Michael Okerchiri, 52, leaving behind the body of their dead 72-year-old relative.

Narrating what happened, a friend of late Micheal Okerchiri, Apostle Kwasi Asante, told Joy News, Mr Okerchiri passed away on Easter Sunday. The family kept the body at the morgue for burial at a later date.

He said when they went for the body, they later realised they had been given the wrong corpse and complained to the mortuary attendants.

According to him, the attendants feigned surprise but the family insisted on answers. The attendants admitted another family had collected and buried Michael Okerchiri.

The family wanted to immediately exhume the body since they had all the arrangements in place for the funeral but the police prevented them saying they should use the right procedure.

The family is now unable to beat the deadline for a ban on drumming and noise making.

Joy News Editor Martha Crentsil Acquah reports that she met a well-decorated residence of the late Okerchiri with everything in place for the funeral, which never came off.

There were muted conversations among family member and friends of the deceased.

Some of the family members left the mortuary to the Adabraka Police Station to get clearance to exhume the body and go ahead with the funeral.

According to her, the family is worried that all the funeral arrangement has gone to waste now that the ban on noise-making by the Ga State has taken effect and will end on July 8.

She said it is a difficult time for the family.

The family is yet to go to court to get an order to exhume the body of the deceased.
