Former MP Bemoans Security ‘decay’ Under Akufo-Addo

A former Deputy Trades and Industry Minister, Murtala Mohammed, has lashed out at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over what he describes as the serious decay in security in the country.

According to him, the security in the country has deteriorated to the point that vigilante groups could hold press conferences to threaten political parties.

The former MP for Nantong Constituency said he has been feeling uneasy especially each time he was in Tamale, where “there has been rampant unabated armed robbery attacks,” something he says he wasn’t used to since he was a boy.

Speaking on TV3’s morning show New Day, Mr. Murtala Mohammed called on community participation in fighting crime in the country.

His comments were in reaction to the arrest of a man posing as a military officer at Nsawam in Eastern Region.

According to him, people had become more emboldened these days to perpetrate illegalities.

“Police officers do not feel safe, how much more ordinary citizens in the country?” he wondered.

Security concerns in the country have been on the increase following a cell break at Kwabenya which led to the death of a police officer.
