Former GBC Boss Ampem Darko Explains Why He Stopped TV License

A Former Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), William Ampem Darko, says he stopped the collection of TV license fees from the public because it was not adequate to fund the state broadcaster.

He said he preferred using internally generated funds to run the state firm instead of taking Ghp30 as TV license to fund GBC.

Speaking on 3FM’s morning show Sunrise on Thursday on the debate over the TV license, Mr. Ampem Darko explained that “the GBC problems are marketing and financing”.

He said “even though the internally generated funds are not enough, I stopped TV license because it was just 30 pesewas”.

“I forgot about TV license and concentrated on internally generated funds to run GBC”.

The member of Commonwealth Broadcasting Association said “managers plays a major role in GBC”.
