A total of nine hundred and eight six (986) residents living around the Weija dam in the Greater Accra Region have been displaced.
The disaster, according to Today sources was as a result of a recent spillage by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
When Today visited the area yesterday, June 28, 2017 it discovered that the spillage had affected several houses in communities such as Tetegu, Mandela, Dansoman, New Weija, Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Weija, Bojo Beach and Ada Kopey, all within the Ga south municipality.
The floods had also caused significant damages to buildings and farms running into thousands of Ghana cedis.
Some victims who spoke to Today in an interview disclosed that they lost virtually all that they had worked for in their lives to the floods.
They attributed the cause of the flooding to choked gutters and poor drainage system in the area.
They indicated that an open drain located between Ayigbe Town and Azumah community, poses grave danger to residents.
To this end, they urged the Department of Urban Roads, the Hydrology Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, the Ga South Municipal Assembly and Member of Parliament (MP) to see to the construction of a drainage system which started several years ago.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has cautioned residents living around the catchment areas of the dam to evacuate.
