The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Eastern Region has confiscated three tonnes of unwholesome products from shops and selling points across the Region.
The exercise is to sanitize the market and ensure consumers have safe products at disposal.
The Eastern Region Director of the Authority, Samuel Kwakye, hinted that his outfit would implement stiffer punishment enshrined in the Public Health Act.
The three tonnes of the “unwholesome products” were collected within a period of eight months, precisely, since November 2016 when two tonnes were also confiscated.
The Authority expressed worry about safety of products for consumers given the quantity seized within the period.
It says it will do its best to enforce the laws but cautioned the general public to check shelf life, expiry date and physical appearance of products before purchase.
