Thomas Teye Partey, who was a product of his father’s training team and that of local youth club, Odometah FC, joined Atletico as a youth player back in 2011. But his 2-year loan spells at Mallorca and Almeria stopped the talented player from shining at the Spanish side.

He however, succeeded in making his debut for the red and white club late in 2015. He subsequently scored his first champions league goal in January, 2016, with his influence at the Spanish side beginning to be glaring after the renewal of his contract early this year.

Thomas Partey in February, 2017, was tied to a long future with Atletico Madrid after his deal with the club was extended to 2022. Prior to the Partey’s Atletico contract renewal, the 24-year-old midfielder had made a total of 31 appearance for the club, scoring a times in all and assisting 3 goals.

Following the renewal, Partey scored the only goal for Atleti in the first leg of their last-32 Copa del Rey tie with third-tier Elche on Wednesday, October 25.

In a similar development, scored an equaliser for Atletico Madrid to revive their faint hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Qarabag. Thomas scored in the 56th minute with a stunning 30-yard side-foot shot from outside the area, hitting the top corner after a back-heel set up by forward Antoine Griezmann.

Thomas Partey was one of the Ghanaian players who significantly helped the country to finish fourth place in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

On 5 September, 2017, Thomas scored his first international hattrick in a 5-1 away win against Congo in a 2018 World Cup Qualification match. That was after he scored his first international goal during a previous home match against Congo on 1st September.
