Rose Bio-Atinga Retires – Its no longer news that Ghana’s first ever Commissioner of Police (COP) Rose Bio-Atinga, retired after 29 years of police work. Madam Rose started her retirement on Thursday, November 30, 2017.

Described by some as the action woman of Ghana police, Rose Atinga left no stones unturned at every duty point, personally involved in the thick of policing to ensure the criminals do not have a field day.

She joined the Ghana Police in 1988 as an officer and rose through the ranks to become the first female Commissioner of Police in Ghana having served in various capacities within the Service across the country.

Here are some things you may not know about the powerful woman.

Rose Atinga was born on November 30, 1957, and is a native of the Upper East Region. She had her GCE O-Level Certificate (1969–74) at St Francis Secondary School and A-Level (1974–76) at St. Monica’s Secondary School.

She proceeded to obtain a degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the School of Administration, University of Ghana.

In 1985, Ms. Bio-Atinga obtained a Post-graduate Certificate in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

Rose Bio Atinga was enlisted into the Ghana Police Service in 1988 as officer cadet alongside the current IGP, Davide Asante Apeatu, COP Patrick Timbilla retired, COP Frank Adu-Poku retired, COP Ransford Moses Ninson, among others.

She served as the first female Divisional and Regional commander in Volta, Eastern, Central and the Accra regions. Due to her consistency and hard work, she was tipped by many as a potential IGP.

However, that never came to pass before her retirement which came after almost three decades of service to the nation.

It may not be certain but source have said that the recently retired officer intends to use her retirement period to write a book about her service to the Police among others. She will always be remembered for her indelible impact on the system.
