FIFA Fines Zamalek – When FIFA threatened to sanction Egyptian side Zamalek for failing to pay outstanding debts to Ghana player Junior Agoo, it seemed like a joke.

FIFA has fined Zamalek $30,000 for failing to pay the wages of Ghana International Junior Agogo. This penalty comes after series of warnings from the football governing body to the Egyptian giants to pay the Ghanaian player

For the third time, Zamalek failed to meet the deadline to clear the unpaid wages of Junior Agogo. Having grown impatient with the conduct of the Cairo based club, FIFA has reacted by slapping them with a fine $30,000.

Zamalek had been instructed by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) to pay Agogo 807‚000 Euros which was the unpaid salaries of the Ghanaian during his time with the club. But after making part payment, the club took a decision to seek redress from FIFA.

The Egyptian side’s failure to comply with instructions then forced FIFA to issue another warning. FIFA ordered Zamalek to Pay Agogo $450,000 for owed arrears back in April this year or face a six points deduction.

Agogo was signed by Zamalek from English club Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2008 for £750,000. He was supposed to receive 1.5 million euros during the duration of his three-year contract with the club.

However, his contract with the club was canceled prematurely after the club failed to fulfill their obligations toward him. After spending only nine months, Junior Agogo ended the contract over unpaid salaries and moved to Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

Agogo who demanded his unpaid fees was not given a green light by his ex-club causing him to escalate the matter to FIFA.

He lodged a complaint with the football governing body demanding compensation for his unpaid dues. However, the Egyptian side took no heed of the FIFA’s orders.

Several warnings to the club by FUFA to pay the Ghanaian proved futile leading to this very drastic action by FIFA – a $30,000 fine.
