President Nana Akufo-Addo is gradually proving to Ghanaians and of course all observers from around the world, that he is committed to putting all his campaign promises into action.

Just few weeks after it was announced that monies for the 1 constituency-$1 million policy is ready for disbursement, a report from GNA, is saying that the 1 village-1 dam promise is on the verge of being commenced.

According to the report, the one village-one dam policy will be launched in Kpandai District of the Northern Region, where ten units of 300KW Biopower and 80 hectres of centre pivot irrigation dams would be constructed in selected ten villages of the district.

The report also revealed that a 300KW dairy farm biogas power plant and irrigation dam, as well as fertilizer production units, would be built in selected villages in the three regions of northern Ghana.

This plan was disclosed by the Chief Executive of Hi-Limit Group of Companies, Emmanuel Larbi, in a statement which he delivered at the Kpandai District Assembly General Meeting for the kick-starting of the project which would be carried out in partnership with the Renewable Energy and Environmental Conservation (REEC) Biopower, a part of Hi-Limit.

The project which stands at an estimated cost of $660 million is aimed at rural electrification development, food production and security, and job creation. And it is expected to generate a total of 132MW of electricity from biopower plants and 35,200 hectres of centre pivot irrigation dams spread across the 44 districts in the Upper West, Upper East and Northern regions.

According to Mr. Larbi, the Hi-Limit patent plant design would simultaneously distribute electricity generated from dairy farm biogas plants to rural villages and also use the biogas effluent (liquid waste) dams for irrigation of crop farms.

President Nana Addo, during the 2016 electioneering, dished out many promises to Ghanaians which are mainly aimed at improving the economy and creating employment opportunities.

Among these numerous promises is the one village-one dam policy which according to him, is aimed at supporting farmers across the country by boosting agriculture through an improved and well-planned irrigation system.

The project is also targeted at creating jobs, as well as ensuring food security and increasing Ghana’s food exports by putting in place an all-year cropping system in the country.

Based on an earlier explanation by the Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, the dam and irrigation project is expected to receive funding from the annual $1 million constituency allocation.

Meanwhile, the one district-one factory policy has already commenced in April, with an initial funding of Ghc721m. Government has also been receiving massive support from various groups and individuals, especially in form of land allocations in support of the programme.
