The Deputy Minister of Trade and MP for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah has rendered an unqualified apology for unleashing venom at the Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM’s Kwami Sefa Kayi on Thursday, Mr. Ahenkorah regretted his outbursts at Mr. Ablakwa, saying that he is sorry and that such will never happen again.

Recall that Carlos Ahenkorah on Tuesday, interrupted a media interview during which Okudzeto Ablakwa was demanding that the Parliament looks into allegation that the Trade Minister used President Akufo-Addo for profiteering at the Ghana Expatriates Business Awards held on the 8th of December, 2017.

The allegation which was presented by the Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency, Mubarak Muntaka had it that the Trade Ministry collected huge sums of money ranging from $22,000 to $100,000 from expatriate business CEOs to provided them seats at the same table with the President.

Commenting on the issue after parliamentary sitting on Tuesday, Okudzeto Ablakwa described it as plain corruption, demanding a probe as well as a statement from the presidency on the issue. He was however cut short by the Deputy Trade Minister who barged into the interview and started calling him [Ablakwa] names, a situation that almost resulted to a physical assault.

The Ahenkorah-Ablakwa altercation has been in the news since after its occurrence, with many condemning the former’s action as very disgraceful for a government official.

But Carlos Ahenkorah has now turned around to say that he is sorry about the entire episode. He asked Ghanaians forgive his disappointing misbehaviour, adding that he will not allow himself to loose guard to that point any other time.

“I am pleading with Ghanaians to forgive me. I am sorry and I promise that it will never happen again… I don’t think I will be led to that point anymore,” Ahenkorah pleaded.

Also asking for Ablakwa’s forgiveness, he condemned his action, saying “we need to continue as brothers from different mothers”.
