“If we claim that, politics is a dirty game, then Christians are the soap to wash and clean the dirt in politics” the leader of the country’s largest Pentecostal church said at Burma Camp Worship Centre last Friday.

He was there to launch of ‘The Youth Political Chamber’, a platform under the auspices of the Youth Ministry of the church. It is to mentor young politicians to have political mindset of Biblical Daniel and Esther, two key players in the court of prominent kings in the Bible.

The program was under the theme: “Towards International Birthing of a Band of ‘Daniels’ and ‘Esthers’ for Ghana, Africa and The World.”

The Political Chamber targets members of the Church and all Ghanaians who are ready to subscribe to its ideals and values and are 35 years or below.

The Youth Political Chamber is to convene twice a year for a residential school to go through lectures and more importantly, to have the opportunity to relate with seasoned political figures who shall be invited to interact with members of the chamber.

The Chairman of the church explained that the platform will “rally incorruptible politicians to groom the youth to be honest and diligent leaders”.

Members of the chamber shall be directly encouraged and supported to pursue their political careers without coloring the chamber with any political party affiliations.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah drew the attention to the exhortation of Christ that Christians are the light of the world, they should rather go into politics to correct the wrongs in the system. “….the devil has made politics look very bad and Christians are afraid to venture into it. This is very bad. “This is a big mistake that Christians have made over the years. I believe that Christians should take leadership positions wherever they are in politics, chieftaincy, etc.” “If we don’t, the wrong people will take over the governance system and come out with bad decisions and policies which will negatively affect all of us,” he stressed. The Youth Director, Apostle David Nyansah Hayfron said there is evidence in the Bible to suggest that “every Christian will eventually become a politician”. He explained that when Christ’s millennial reign begins, he will rule a new earth together with faithful Christians. He stressed that God’s vision is to create a ‘Royal Priesthood’ capable of exercising authority for the general good of the new earth. The Youth Political Chamber will help to raise spirit-filled politicians, statesmen and diplomats for Ghana who will bring true and lasting development to the country. Delivering a short speech at the launch of the programme, former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), minced no words when he said “I support the Youth of the Church of Pentecost now thinking that political career is not for only the people of the world but for Christians”. He was however quick to add that Christian who engage in politics must be strong in their values and morals and be rooted in Christ in order not to backslide. The Chairman also inaugurated a 7-member Committee tasked to spearhead the effective implementation of the project. They are Pastor Michael Peasah (Chairman), Pastor Felix Okyere Anti (Secretary), Pastor Clement Achim-Gyimah, Elder Dr Bernard Kumi-Boateng, Deaconess Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, Hon. Kennedy Kankam and Hon. Adwoa Ntoso.
