Barely 24 hours after some residents and traders at Kantamanto, in the central business district of the Greater Accra region, cried out to #CommunityConnect to intervene and get managers of Grand View Hotel to attend to a septic tank that has spilled over, 3news.com can confirm that the problem has been solved!

On Wednesday January 31, #CommunityConnect host, Johnnie Hughes, received distress calls following what the complainants described as “failed attempts to solve this sanitation hazard” on their own.

The team subsequently knocked on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s doors to speedily act on the issue.

According to Michael Yartey, a shop owner, the dark coloured waste fluid has been oozing out since Monday, inconveniencing their business operations in the process.

He added that a similar situation had existed earlier in January and that’s why “we want this health hazard fixed once and for all.”

Site checks by Johnnie Hughes and his team on Thursday, revealed that the dark liquid which was discolouring the pavement, and washing silt into a nearby gutter as at Wednesday, had ceased.

However, the sewerage receptacle remains unsealed and poses danger to innocent pedestrians along the UTC link road towards arena in Accra.

Some obviously satisfied traders, who had earlier expressed fears about a possible outbreak of cholera, due to the smell and proximity of food vending joints to the spillage, could not hide their joy at over what had happened.

Grateful Michael Yartey said “I thank community connect and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for the swift response. I hope that the solution will be permanent”.

#CommunityConnect is live on 3fm 92.7 on Fridays from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm and, it’s hosted by RTP2017 Radio Development Show Host, Johnnie Hughes!
