Class 3 Student Sentenced For Lily Asigbetse’s Death

The 18-year-old Achimota School murder suspect has earned a three-year sentence for shooting a classmate, Lily Dzigbordi Asigbetse to death. The verdict was dished out by an Accra Juvenile Court.

This was after a series of rigorous court hearings, fraught with intermittent cross-examinations and adjournments which had gotten the deceased family upset.

The suspect had initially denied taking his classmate’s life intentionally, having told the Police on January 5 that he intended shooting into the air but the gravity of the gun changed course and hit the deceased.

However, findings and evidences from investigations finally earned him 3 years at the correctional home. A development that has been met with praise by the family of the deceased.

The deceased, Lily Dzigbordi Asigbetse who lived at Cantonments reportedly left the school to go and pay her school fees. But it is believed she diverted and visited the accused person said to be her friend at Community eight (8) in Tema.

But the visit turned bloody as one Madam Gifty Billy, a neighbour, heard a gunshot and ran to the accused place, only to find Lily lying in a pool of blood.

Gifty had rushed the victim to the Port Clinic in Tema. But she was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra due to her condition, where she subsequently died on admission.

It was later discovered that the Achimota student suspect shot Lily with his father’s single barrel gun.
