The Chief Justice, Sopia Akuffo has warned the general public against making unacceptable comments about the committee set up to probe three staff of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The warning was contained in a statement released by Judicial Secretary, Justice Alex B. Poku-Acheampong on Monday, December 18, formally announcing the rules that will govern the committee which has been set up to investigate the allegations leveled against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and her two deputies.

The statement advised the public to “treat the Committee with the respect and dignity it deserves” as it carries out the probe which it described as a “constitutional duty”, warning that “comments that will undermine the work of the Committee” may amount to contempt.

Recall that in July this year, some staff of the Electoral Commission anonymously petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to impeach the Commission’s Chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei over some allegations of breach of Procurement Laws, managerial incompetence and abuse of powers.
However, in the course of events, Madam Charlotte Osei also turned around to accuse her deputies – Amadu Sulley and Georgina Amankwa of corrupt practices, thus, bringing them into the allegation and impeachment saga.
In order to properly look into the matter and sniff out the truth, a five-member committee was set up by the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council. The inquiry committee comprises a Justice of the Supreme Court (who chairs it), and two other Court of Appeal judges appointed by the Judicial Council as well as two other persons appointed by the Chief Justice, on the advice of the Council of State.
The EC probe is expected to begin in January 2018.
