The action by the youth of Yorogo, a surburb of Bolgatanga, was triggered by Police intervention that saved the mortuary man from being lynched.

Police say the mortuary man was driving in the Yorogo area on Thursday when his vehicle knocked dead the deceased about 6:00pm.

The vehicle was vandalised and set ablaze by some angry youth of the area including some relatives of the deceased later on Friday converged the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital to get the body for burial.

According to the Police, the people spotted the mortuary man, got incensed, attacked and assaulted him and his colleagues.

They also destroyed the mortuary man’s motorbike and “went on rampage at the hospital premises”, the Police confirmed to 3News Saturday.

“Police moved to the scene and met them in the act but on seeing the police, they took to their heels,” the Police told 3News, adding that four of the attackers were arrested in the process.

“At about 6:30pm, the attackers besieged the Bolgatanga Municipal police station amidst stone throwing and eventually dumped the body of the deceased in a coffin at the frontage of the police station,” the Police told 3News.

According to sources, the Police had to fire rubber bullets to disperse the irate mob and bring the situation under control.

The names of the arrested were given as Nyaaba Nsor, 30; Joseph Abubakari 20; Joshua Agbambire, 30; and the assembly member of Yorogo, Adongo Peter, 41 who is said to have mobilized the youths to attack the victims.

They are to be charged for causing unlawful damage and put before court, the Police said.
