Blame NPP Executives – Kamal-Deen

Executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) should bear some of the blame for the excesses that have arisen after the announcement of the list of District Chief Executives (DCEs) because they failed to manage the expectations of the supporters of the party after the 2016 polls, Kamal-Deen Abdulai, National Nasara Coordinator of the NPP, has said.

He explained that there was the need for all members of the party to know that not everybody in the party will be appointed as a minister, deputy minister, District Chief Executive, or other designation, hence to the extent that there have been some agitations following the release of the list of the DCEs, those executives of the party have to shoulder the blame.

On Wednesday April 26, some members of the party, especially in the Northern Region, went on rampage because their preferred candidates were not chosen as DCEs by the president’s committee headed by Peter Mc Manu, the party’s 2016 campaign manager.

Reacting to this development while speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Thursday, 27 April, Mr Abdulai said: “Let’s give genuine support to the president and his team and make sure we move on.”

“Let me be very fair and very charitable to the president. The president appreciated the work that we did for the party in the polls and so he said he was going to make me a Deputy Minister. But I respectfully said to him that I was yet to reach that level and that I wanted to continue doing party work in order to consolidate the gains of the party. He willingly accepted my explanation and said he believed in my convictions and advised me to move on. All I want to say is that not all of us can become ministers or DCEs.”

He added: “I will put some of the blame on the executives of the party over what is happening because the executives were supposed to manage the expectations of party people from district to district, from region to region. That was what we were supposed to do after the electoral victory to explain to them that yes, there will be appointments but not everybody will be appointed. I believe we have done a little but maybe we need to do a little more.”
