Mr Joseph Amoako-Ansah, Executive Director of Open Dove Children Foundation (ODOCEF), a non-governmental organization, who gave the advice, said children must follow the natural developmental transition into adulthood.

Mr Amoako-Ansah in an interview with the Ghana News Agency stated that “children of today are forcing themselves into adulthood instead of following the process of development”.

He added that completing basic school education should not be seen as an opportunity to engage in adult activities noting that some BECE graduates often resort to alcoholism, ritual monies, internet fraud, and other immoral activities.

He indicated that most of these graduates got introduced to these vices especially sexual activities during the various parties to celebrate their completion of basic school.

According to him, such graduates might smoke and use expensive mobile phones but that was not an indication that they were in a position to be adults.

The Executive Director of ODOCEF urged the youth not to put to waste resources being invested into them by their parents and state but rather use their free time to embark on volunteer works as well as acquiring skills in ICT.

He called on parents to make time for their children irrespective of their busy schedules as children mostly took advantage of their absence to engage in unacceptable behaviours.

Mr Amoako-Ansah said to encourage the youth to focus on their vision and resist peer pressure, his outfit recently organized a talk for over 1,200 BECE graduates in the Volta Region under its flagship programme; Ebenezer Praise 2017.
