Reports reveal that Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan paid for a chartered flight to convey the national team from Brazzaville to Accra after the 5-1 Ghana-Congo victory yesterday.
Gyan’s act of benevolence was reportedly necessitated by an 11th-hour cancellation of the team’s initial flight arrangement by the Sports Ministry, leaving them virtually stranded in the Central African country.
On Monday, GFA Communications Director, Ibrahim Saanie Daara, confirmed to the media that a chartered flight had been secured to bring the players back to Ghana after the match in Brazzaville. But it emerged on Tuesday after the match that the government had failed to get the flight.
However, Asamoah Gyan stepped in and quickly resolved the challenge to enable players get to Accra by Tuesday evening for onward travels to Europe to resume duties at their respective clubs.
The players had reportedly been given a September 7 deadline for their return. And they would have arrived in Europe on September 8 and getting punished, if not for the timely intervention of the Black Stars Captain.
Ghana trashed Congo 5-1 in the match that took place Tuesday afternoon [September 5], at Stade de l’Unité in Brazaville. Despite the fact that two key players of the team – Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew were absent from the game, the Black Stars’ performance was impressively incredible.
A hat-trick from Thomas Teye Partey and a brace from Richmond Boakye Yiadom gave the Ghana team their first win after four games in the ongoing 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

In an earlier match against the Red Devils which ended in a 1-1 draw, Gyan suffered a groin injury which was why he was benched during the Tuesday clash in Brazaville.
Ayew on his own part, was hospitalized after the Friday match after he complained of stomach upset. He was subsequently diagnosed of suspected food poison. See why Gyan and Ayew missed Congo return leg for more details.
Meanwhile, Ghana still has a very narrow chance to make it to the World Cup as they are still 6 and 7 points behind Egypt and Uganda respectively.
