The demolition exercise embarked on by officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Thursday morning seems to have incurred the wrath of some traders whose structures were completely destroyed.

The visibly angry victims expressed their displeasure at President Akufo-Addo for endorsing the exercise at the expense of their businesses and monies for their livelihoods.

According to the traders, they voted for President Akufo-Addo with expectancy of a significant change in the state of affairs only for them to be deprived of the very same structures and space which enables them earn their daily bread.

“We are telling Akufo-Addo that our thumbs still function, this is the exact reason we moved from NDC to NPP, because we were suffering, Akufo-Addo promised us traders positive change, that is why we voted for him”, an aggrieved trader said.

Justifying why they chose the area to sell their wares, the traders indicated that shops in recent times are expensive and the businesses don’t generate enough for them to hire a place and pay rent.

“We don’t have the money to hire stores, I for instance have four children to cater for so if you sack us from this place, where do we go?” a trader queried.

They charged government to come to their aid and provide structures where they can set up their wares and sell to make some money to cater for themselves and their families. They pledged to vote against the President if he fails to come to their aid and resolve the situation.

“Nana Addo Dankwa, we beg you, we are losing our ………………..we beg him to get us a place….we will vote him out in the next elections, the four years will soon be here”, some traders ranted.

The AMA Thursday morning implored about 50 men to demolish and burn unauthorized structures at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

PRO for the Assembly, Numo Blafo indicated that the move forms part of measures to ensure that President Akufo-Addo’s vision of making the capital one of the cleanest cities in the country becomes a reality.
