Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei has decided to make a move against some aggrieved employees of the Commission petitioning for her impeachment. The EC boss has served notice of her decision to take legal action against the persons who have petitioned the President to impeach her.

Ms Osei claims the petition are unfounded and were formed with the intention to disrepute her image. The EC boss has also challenged the lawyer representing the so-called concerned staff of the electoral commission who are demanding her removal from office by the President.

The petition signed by private legal practitioner Maxwell Opoku Agyeman, counsel for the petitioners stated that among other things, Ms Osei breached the Procurement law in producing goods and services for the Commission.

According to the petition -a six paged document, Charlotte Osei singularly secured a V8 Land Cruiser for her use and awarded contracts worth thousands of dollars, without recourse to laid down administrative structures and the Public Procurement Act. Some of the contracts include that which she allegedly awarded to her cronies -a sum of 14,310,961 dollars, for the construction of prefabricated District offices without recourse to the Commission.

In a letter written by her lawyers, to the lawyer of the petitioners, the EC boss demanded the list of the names of workers who had made the claims for her removal. This is to enable them to commence legal action against them for the defamatory statements contained in their petition. They intend to proceed to court to seek protection for her reputation.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the aggrieved employees, Maxwell Opoku says he is ready to meet the EC Chairperson in court. The lawyer maintains he has enough evidence to back the claims they made against her which formed the basis for their demand for her removal from office.

The aggrieved employees through their lawyer have said they will not be intimidated by Ms Osei’s threat to go to court over the matter.
