President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says “it is not clear that Akufo-Addo will be on the ballot anyway”.
He explained that going to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) again for the 2020 elections is not his decision alone to take.
The president made these remarks on Tuesday when he met some journalists at the Flagstaff House in a media encounter to account for the first six months of his stewardship.
President Akufo-Addo took over from John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2017 after winning the December 7, 2016 elections.
It was his third time of asking, having lost the 2008 and 2012 polls to late John Evans Atta Mills and Mr Mahama respectively.
In answering one of the questions at the media encounter, President Akufo-Addo said he does not know whether he will contest in 2020.
The question bordered on his resolve in fighting illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey, at the expense of his presidency.
“Even if [I am] on the ballot, [the threats] will not stop me,” he maintained.
