President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has scheduled a media encounter at the Flagstaff House to tell Ghanaians about his six-month stay in office.

President Akufo-Addo took over the presidency on January 7, 2017 from John Dramani Mahama.

Six months into office, the president is expected to give account of “results” since coming into office.

The encounter is scheduled to begin at 12:30pm Tuesday.

“[President Akufo-Addo] thinks that this accountability and interaction with the Ghanaian people is a democratic requirement, that as a democratic president, once a while, you come back to the people and tell them what it is that you’re doing with the mandate that they gave you,” Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid told journalists on Monday.

The Minister said the president will welcome constructive criticism from journalists in a bid to shape his vision for the future.

“He recognises that he is a human being and that he is not perfect and therefore once a while you meet with people, they will give you ideas, they will make suggestions. They will even criticise your policies so that you can take these criticism and suggestions on board and then better fashion out your vision for the development of the country.”

There have been criticisms of the meeting with some saying it is coming in too early.

Previous governments in the Fourth Republic have held such meetings after one year in office.

“We thought that one year will be a very long time,” the Information Minister insisted.

Stakeholders have, nonetheless, shared their opinions on the president’s performance in the first six months of his four-year mandate.

Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School Dr Justice Nyigmah Bawole, speaking on TV3’s News @10 on Monday, commended the government in stabilizing power supply.

He also commended the president for his posture in changing the fortunes of the country.

“All this whilem he has been very nationalistic.”

He was, however, critical of the lack of governing councils for some major institutions in the country after six months.
