According to the farmers, who produce, cocoa, coconut, cassava and corn, they have been recording high cases of post-harvest losses due to the bad nature of their roads which cut them off from major towns and market centers in the region.

Pouring out their grievances and frustrations to Today during a visit to the area last week, they stated that the situation was so bad that they had to urgently arrange coconut logs to serve as some sort of a bridge to enable them access the road to the market with their foodstuff.

The Odikro of Abodwese, Nana Kwame Tawiah, told Today that the farmers were compelled, during a communal labour, to arrange coconut logs from edge to edge on the stream that connects the communities to enable them cross to Agona Swedru for business.

He indicated that the nature of the roads were so bad that school children have to stay at home anytime it rains to prevent them from drowning.

“They have placed the coconut logs on the stream so that school children schooling in Swedru and other surrounding towns can also cross and go to school,” he explained.

“But as you can see, it is not safe because anyone who loses balance while walking on the logs to cross to town could fall into the stream and get drowned, especially in this rainy season,” he earned.

The Odikro bemoaned that the problem has persisted for almost two decades, adding that every effort they have made to the Agona West Municipal Assembly have proven futile.

They therefore appealed to the government to replace the coconut logs with a culvert to enhance their day to day activities.
