Residents and saw millers are therefore calling on the Agona East District Assembly to complete work on the bridge to make it accessible.

The construction of the main bridge connecting Agona Asafo and the new sawmills was started by the Member of Parliament for the Agona East Constituency in 2015 and abandoned in the same year.

Reliable sources from the Agona East District Assembly disclosed that the construction of the bridge did not pass through due process hence the road has since not been accessible.

As risky as it is, residents including school children and saw millers are compelled to carry their loads on their heads whereas others choose to use an alternative route, which is a long distance from the town.

A carpenter, Kobena Krampah, lamented that a food seller once fell in the ditch and lost her items.

A saw miller, Nana Acquah also narrated how they go through difficult times conveying their goods because the road is not accessible for vehicles and appealed to the Agona East District Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, fill the areas around the bridge.

At a durbar of chiefs and people of Agona Asafo as part of their Akwambo festival, the chief of the area, Nana Nyamfo Esuako, expressed worry about the poor state of roads and drainage system within the Asafo community and called for government’s support.

Some of the streets are gradually being divided by wide gaps caused by erosion and need immediate attention.

A resident, Samuel Nana Yaw Ofori, disclosed that two lives were once lost during heavy rains due to the deep gullies created by erosion.
