The suspects: Dramani Seidu, 24; Richard Bromyiwa, 25; and Joseph Gyimah alias Agyaku, 24  were arrested by the Nyinahin District Police command on Thursday, January 18, 2018 upon intelligence.

The three were suspected to have been involved in an armed robbery incident that took place at the Asanayo forest on the Afepaye-Nyinahin trunk road on Monday, January 15, 2018 at about 4:30am, the Deputy Regional Police Commander, DCOP Fred Adu Anim told media at a briefing on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the regional police headquarters.

“The suspects wielding two (2) single barrel guns, laid ambush at the Asanayo forest, fired and stopped a driver in charge of a 207 Sprinter Benz passengers bus with registration number WR 844 X on the aforementioned date and time and forcibly ordered him to stop, which he obliged out of fear,” DCOP Anim said “the three suspected armed robbers at gunpoint then ordered the driver and all the passengers out of the vehicle to lie down.”

The robbers, according to him subsequently robbed the driver and the passengers of unspecified amount of money and over 20 mobile phones.

He said the three robbers bolted into the forest after the robbery incident, but luck eluded them when police had intelligence about their activities and arrested them at Appiakrom, a village near Nyinahin.

A search in their rooms, he said led to the retrieval of two single barrel guns, two BB cartridges, one AAA cartridge, 20 assorted mobile phones, seven wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, cash amount of GH¢1,350, a torchlight, one lighter and sachet of tramadol capsules.

All the three suspects, he said, have admitted to the crime in their caution statements to police and are currently in custody assisting in investigations.

“Meanwhile victims in the robbery attack have identified all the three suspects as their assailants and have identified the mobile phones that were robbed from them during the robbery,” he indicated.

The command has therefore assured the general public of its resolution to fight crime to the barest minimum and prosecute all criminals when arrested to serve as deterrent to other would be criminals.
