Major Mahama’s widow -The Ghanaian government has secured for the widow of late soldier Major Mahama who was lynched to death at Denkyira Obuasi.
The Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has also hinted that the government has established a trust fund in the name of the late soldier. The trust fund was established to cater for the welfare of Major Mahama’s widow and her children.

The establishment of the fund and the employment offer were in fulfilment of government’s promise to the family of late Major Mahama after he was gruesomely murdered at Denkyira-Obuasi.
It can be recalled that President Akufo-Addo had promised when he would establish a trust fund for the late soldier’s family as part of four other things promised to the family.
Speaking to Accra-based Starr FM, Dominic Nitiwul said that they went to cabinet who approved of it, after which the proposal was taken to the Gazette. Presently it is a bill which the President will sooner than later assent to after Parliament has done its job.
Maxwell Adam Mahama was lynched on Monday, May 29, 2017, by residents of Denkyira Obuasi on suspicion that he was an armed robber.
The late soldier who was a member of the 5th Infantry Battalion was lynched and burnt by some residents of Diaso, in Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, after he was mistaken to be an armed robber.
Mahama is said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday, May 29, when some angry youth of the town attacked him, allegedly on suspicion of being an armed robber. The captain had stopped by to inquire for directions when a gun was spotted on him by residents who raised an alarm, leading to his brutal death.
A total of 58 suspects arrested in connection with the murder has since made an appearance at the Accra Central District Court, and are standing trial for murder and attempt to commit murder.
The Denkyira Traditional Council performed purification rights in the area to ward off any curse the soldier’s death might bring to the area.
Following his death, the deceased who was a Captain at the time of his death was promoted to a Major by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
This was following a recommendation from the Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. O. B Akwa who requested that the slain Captain be promoted, as he was due for the same rank before his death.
